News

3.1.2009:

The news are now published in a user friendly blog.
Please see fiberdesk.blogspot.com

There is also no SPAM send to your email, however, if you need to be quickly informed about news, changes or updates, follow fiberdesk on Twitter.

Some videos are available on YouTube.

30.11.2009:

Commercial version 3 is updated and can be downloaded. Bug in pulse injectiong function removed.

15.11.2009:

You can now download version 4. Currently it is an evaluation copy for selected customers. You must obtain a new hardware key before testing.

16.07.2009:

New update for the commercial version:

- new saturable absorber model
- new color bars for the spectrogram
- negative gain from ASCII file possible to simulate spectral shapes of absorption

28.03.2009:

New demo version can be downloaded. Movies added to preview section.

21.02.2009:

There is progress but also delay to the new version of fiberdesk.
Here is a new screenshot of the Windows 7 Scenic ribbon bar now included in the software.
In the new version you can:
- select predefined fibers
- do parameter variations for the initial field parameters and any parameter of the propagation
- rate equation evaluation also in combination with the NLSE
- z-dependent parameter changes

30.12.2008:

The year is almost over. Here is a benchmark of compilers and FFTs tested recently for supercontinuum generation on a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU @ 2.66 GHz:

1024 data points

Microsoft Compiler VS2008, no optimization, Numerical Recipes FFT: 68 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, no optimization, template based FFT: 68 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, no optimization, FFTW 2.1.3: 65 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, no optimization, Intel MKL FFT: 57 sec

Microsoft Compiler VS2008, full optimization, Numerical Recipes FFT: 47 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, full optimization, template based FFT: 46 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, full optimization, FFTW 2.1.3: 44 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, full optimization, Intel MKL FFT: 43 sec

Intel Compiler V11.0, Numerical Recipes FFT: 49 sec
Intel Compiler V11.0, FFTW 2.1.3: 42 sec
Intel Compiler V11.0, Intel MKL FFT: 42 sec

16384 data points

Microsoft Compiler VS2008, intermediate optimization, Numerical Recipes FFT: 966 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, intermediate optimization, template based FFT: 876 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, intermediate optimization, FFTW 2.1.3: 803 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, intermediate optimization, Intel MKL FFT: 830 sec

16384 data points, memory aligned

Microsoft Compiler VS2008, intermediate optimization, FFTW 3.3alpha1: 801 sec
Microsoft Compiler VS2008, intermediate optimization, Intel MKL FFT: 793 sec

In the commercial or demo version, the MS Compiler is used with the template based FFT. It is not to bad, however, there seems to be some speed enhancement possible for the next version, probably Intels MKL.

14.12.2008:

Important: To keep the complexity small, the saturable absorper is currently modeled by a single time constant. The effective time modeling as introduced on 12.7.2008 seems to bring up more confusion. Please contact the support for an update or if you prefer a different model for saturable losses.
The next version of fiberdesk will also include TPA/FCA effects.

30.9.2008:

End of September ... lets take a look at the statistics of the last 3 years of www.fiberdesk.com:

13.9.2008:

Preview to Fiberdesk Version 4.0. In the beginning of 2009 the new version of Fiberdesk will include features like improved visualisation, parameter variation functionality and a rate equation amplification model. Please take a look at the first previews.

26.8.2008:

Measurements in the recent update are not correct. Please write an email to get the download link for the corrected version.

12.7.2008:

Important: SESAM model has been changed to solve the following rate equation.

SESAM parameters dialog is not changed. Please read the updated manual.
Thanks to G. Martel for helpful discussion.

14.6.2008:

"Postprocessing->select slice" has now a direct input additionally to the slider control.

"Postprocessing->measure again" does not update the view for each slice, thus, it is much faster now.
Progress bar is now a separate window including additional information. It appears transparent on MS Vista (Aero).

Improved import of ANDO spectrum files.
Improved import of ASCII files.
Updates for Version 3.0 on request.

10.4.2008:

File dialog error on Vista corrected.
Bug on custom filter removed.

23.3.2008:

Manual updated. Homepage updated.
Grating dispersion error corrected. Error on file dialog corrected.
New element added: custom spectral filter as ASCII file (amplitude and phase function), please see manual for details.

3.3.2008:

new demo version available (customized gain curve, improved pulse profile, bugs removed)
Updates for Version 3.0 on request.
